Hello

During the process of training as a counsellor back in 2007 and then subsequently entering counselling myself, I started the process of looking at some of my internal struggles which up until that point I hadn’t realised were affecting me as much as they had been. The counselling process undoubtedly had a profound, life-changing effect on me, which still stays with me even now. Therefore I know it can feel daunting, terrifying actually to look inside, so I’m always very mindful when working with someone for the first time what a brave step it takes to make that appointment, but forever hopeful you will get a fulfilling and ultimately liberating experience as I once did.

I'm always mindful of what a brave step it is to make that first appointment...

My Story

As well as working in the therapeutic world, I’m also a mum to three children, so as you can appreciate life is busy, challenging and never straightforward, plus I’m still learning. Escapism for me is gardening, walking our dog, yoga and time spent with friends.

My experience and areas of specialism

As well as being a qualified, accredited person-centred counsellor for 14 years, I'm also a registered nurse with 27 years of experience, still continuing to lecture to nursing students at Glasgow Caledonian University.

I loved my nursing practice role, working for 23 years in sexual health and latterly in public health during the COVID pandemic as a health protection nurse specialist.  In sexual health, I gained a lot of experience working with people with very personal and difficult issues. I helped them to explore their sexuality and gender, supported those with Blood Borne Viruses such as HIV, supported people who had gone through tremendous trauma, either through rape, sexual abuse, trafficking, homelessness & prostitution.

In counselling, I have worked as a person centred counsellor in an NHS adult counselling service, a Glasgow secondary school and now privately.  I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and adhere to their ethical framework for good practice. I offer counselling to individuals over 16.

Coming to counselling...

In my experience, there are many reasons why someone may come to counselling. Some may be very clear about what the issues are, whilst others may have a sense that something doesn't feel quite right, but don't know why. They may be stuck with life, troubled by the past, overwhelmed, anxious, angry all the time, feel they are struggling with life or suicidal. Some people may want to focus specifically on their own personal or professional development for the future. I have experience working with all of these issues.

So if any of this resonates with you and you would like to have a chat to help you decide if I would be the right person to support you then call me on 07739 530393 or book a free initial chat. If you don't see any hours of availability that suit then please contact me - my schedule is often quite flexible. I will endeavour to return your call within 24 hours.
